Is The Online Giant Ebay Failing?

Is the internet giant failing? As an occasional seller on that giant (basically they gave us our start), we have seen a number of items come up with their policy that would leave you just scratching your head in wonder. The new DSR (Seller Rating), Feedback Policy, and the one of most recent, Paypal Only sight. They literally shot themselves in the foot with the last Policy change.

I think the answer to the question is yes. Is it to late to make some changes and get a comeback? Some speculators would say Yes it is a little late. With the economy being what it is, more people should listing items for killer bargins, but that is not the case. The stock for the giant is going lower and lower as the confidence in the site is dwindling. Some would ask me why would you care if they fail? You have a simular site format. My answer is simple; I do not so much want to see the sight fail. My reason for the statement is also simple, knowing to some degree ebay has the market cornered for its genre and market presence. The traffic the site gets is also very incredible, so knocking the site down a few notches may help a competitor come up in the ranks for volume.

Lets be real, monopolies rarely last. Having a competitor in the market place helps with the checks and balances, and keeps things competitive for the buyer and the seller. Should we be concerned with all these corporate businesses starting to fail? Yes, we should be concerned with this issue, but we need to also look at the bigger picture and get tougher than the economy. One day at a time will give the tell tail signs in the market.

Has Your Internet Provider Sold You A Dirty IP Address?

This is a great question to be asked, because the chances are real good you have a dirty IP Address. Lets define a dirty address. A dirty IP is an address that has been reported to the RBL or Blacklist for spamming or hacking violations. These black lists block a certain range of IP numbers within an IP number range and are much like a phone number but set in ranges. For example: the numbers ending from 01 – 99 get blocked, but number 67 is the actual violator. These ranges change every time you log on depending on your provider, issuing a new address, hence, a blacklisted block will occur, 01 – 99. Once on a Blacklist, security software will detect this range and block you from a website and possibly, like in my case my own site.

Our provider (Comcast) knowingly sold or rented a dirty IP address to us. The dirty IP did not show its uglyness till my server techs upgraded some security software that caught the IP address and box trapped it from accessing the site servers. As a business owner, this is more than just inconvenient, it is a loss of revenue and customer service. We send no spam so we where totally shocked when we found our IP on the Blacklist. We feel the service providers should not be able to resell or rent an IP till it has been cleared from the list. Think your IP is clean because you do not spam or hack? Better think again, and find a site that will run your IP against the blacklist like this site http://www.mxtoolbox.com/ that checks approx 147 lists. You need your IP to do the test. You can find out your IP by visiting http://www.whatsmyip.org/ . Your IP Address will show at the top of the screen and this is what you enter into the search to see if you are on a blacklist. I am hoping some tech guys can add more to this topic and give further insight and education.

What are your thoughts about this subject? Let us all know here with a response. Should The Providers be allowed to sell or rent dirty compromised IP's? We think it is a violation and is like getting sold a car that is a lemon or was totaled and sold as new. Time to send a message to these internet providers to clean up there act and IP's before releasing them to the public. We really want to hear from you and your thoughts on the subject.

UPGRADES TO NORTHWEST BLVD AUCTIONS

UPGRADES TO SITE

We are proud to announce some upgrades to northwestblvd.com. Here is the small list of the changes to help you buy or sell more effectively.

  • Second Chance Purchasing - This feature will allow the seller to send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder or if there are more very simular items available. This has been proven to be a good feature, but abuse of this feature will not be tolerated and possible prosecution will be aggressively sought. This feature is a benefit so please use it wisely. We want you to have as many venues available to complete a sale as possible.

  • End Auction Early - This feature is a great tool and is an upgrade from the Delete Auction. Say you find a flaw or error in your listing and you have bids. This will allow you to end the auction and not delete it. You can make the corrections needed and make contact with your bidders to let them know you needed to correct the listing. If an item is lost, broken, or stolen, this gives you an out.

  • Full Size Photo Feature - This is another added benefit to the site. In your listings, you will note where the small photos are stored to the left of the main photo. Below the small photo is View Full Size Photo (NO FEES ARE COLLECTED FOR THIS FEATURE) and it is part of the package for the seller. This feature will add a greater chance of making a sale or increasing your bids.

We hope that you will like the new perks for the site and we will announce future upgrades to the site as soon as they become available. Thank you and good luck to you all,

What Makes A Good Site A Great Site?

What makes a good site a great site? This sounds complex to answer, but the reality is good communication with the client base. Communication is key to the success of any online service. The communication made with the client will help the site to grow and make a far more user friendly site. Each site has its values for what it represents and how it manages client responses or suggestion. Granted many suggestions may be out of the reach of many sites or it is something that would compromise a sites security.

We feel letting the users of our sight give suggestions or create a topic base in our blog format, is one way of making a good site into a better site and eventually into a great site. We believe that communication participation will help with FAQ's Developement as well with tips and tricks for listing ease. We invite you to participate in this Blog for Northwest Blvd Auctions. We want to hear from you so we can build the site into a great site.

New Site For Northwest Blvd Auctions

Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since our last post to the blog page here. We have been very busy trying to fix the old program in the last few months. We ran into problem after problem and finally gave up on the last program. Northwest Blvd Auctions now has a new program and a face lift. This face lift is a heaven send as it is taking shape. We hope to have the site operational in about 4 days and running auctions.

Using the link in this post will take you to the site. The other links in the previous posts will not work as of yet. We will be doing a redirect for the site and the other links will again work. We hope that this will lead to a brighter future with better stability and security. We hope to have you there soon,

Northwest Blvd Auctions Team
